Congratulations 2020 Distinguished Alumni
Ms. Austin began her professional career in information technology sales and account management. Throughout her career, she focused on achieving the business goals; however, she clearly understood the human element necessary to succeed. This balance produced a team of professionals who were all driven to succeed guided by her leadership. She served in various management roles, ultimately “retiring” in July 2000 as Vice President of Marketing and Human Resources for Bell Industries.
In addition to her daily responsibilities, Ms. Austin was active in the technology industry. She served as President (1993-94) and then Chairman of the Board (1994-95) of the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). She also led the Apple Dealers Advisory Board as Chairman in 1995.
She served on a variety of industry advisory councils and speaker panels. She presented public policy issues facing the IT industry in Washington, most notably Internet security, privacy, and capacity. She championed industry standards and certifications requirements such as A+ and CNA certifications. She was published in several trade publications. Ms. Austin was named to Computer Reseller News “20 to Watch” in the IT industry. She was also featured in the Indianapolis Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Information Technology” in 1995.
Currently, as Vice President of Austin Integrated Marketing, Ms. Austin works with small to mid-size clients on the design and implementation of branding, positioning, and marketing strategies. However, her primary focus during the last 16 years has been volunteerism in MSDLT schools and the Lawrence Township School Foundation. She has served in several leadership positions with responsibility for volunteers, logistics, marketing, branding, and client satisfaction. She has directed major fundraisers, raising over $1M, as well as helped to raise the profile of the fundraising event and associated organization. In 2013, Ms. Austin was recognized by Geist Magazine as a Professional Volunteer serving the community.
Ms. Austin is a life-long Lawrence Township resident. She and her husband, Jim, have 2 daughters who are also proud Lawrence Central graduates.

The MSD of Lawrence Township is accepting nominations for Distinguished Alumni from Lawrence Central and Lawrence North High Schools. With this award, we recognize those outstanding alumni who have displayed extraordinary gifts of leadership, achieved recognition for their professional expertise, attained success in their field of endeavor, and provided service to their community and/or LT Schools.
Each fall, a committee representing the MSDLT and LT School Foundation submits to the superintendent recommendations for selection. Those selected are then confirmed by the Board of Education. In early April, the newly selected honorees are invited to address the top seniors of the current graduating class at the annual Top 30 Banquet. Once an applicant is submitted he/she remains on the list, so there is no need to submit it again.
