Healthy Body Healthy Mind

Crown Mentoring

Crown Mentoring is an afterschool program that focuses on the three A’s: Attendance, Attitude, and Academics, with the ultimate goal of increasing character in the lives of the young men. Designed for African American males, this program serves fifth and sixth grade students in three MSD of Lawrence Township Schools: Brook Park, Oakland, and Winding Ridge Elementary Schools.

Students are selected to be part of the program with input from teachers and parents. Once identified, students meet 2 times per week with their mentors. Each week is themed to help develop a different character attribute. These young men also take field trips to government buildings, corporations, and college campuses where they can see leaders in action. The belief is that if you can see it, you can be it.

The Kids Up & Running program is an after school running club that increases fitness awareness among students and parents. The mission is to challenge students to experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a true life-changing experience. The ultimate goal is to train three days a week and compete in a 5K run or half marathon.
