Scholarships
The LTSF Scholarship program provides financial support to graduating seniors. These scholarships are designed to help offset the costs associated with pursuing higher education, including tuition, books, and other educational expenses. By offering a range of scholarships, the program aims to recognize academic achievement, leadership qualities, and community involvement among deserving students. Through financial assistance, the scholarship program empowers LT seniors to pursue their academic and career aspirations without the burden of excessive financial constraints, fostering a pathway to success and contributing to their future achievements. Last year, LTSF awarded 33 scholarships totaling $70,500.

Sandy Bartenbach Memorial Scholarship
In memory of beloved Crestview Elementary teacher, Sandy Bartenbach, a $500 scholarship is available to former Crestview Elementary students.
The applicant must be:
- A former student of Crestview Elementary
- A senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Planning to attend a two or four-year college or university or trade school
- A student of high character
- Requires one reference

Dwaine C. Bell Memorial Scholarship
Mr. Dwaine Bell, teacher and coach in Lawrence Township schools for 25 years, lost his battle with cancer in 1983. He had a positive and genuine effect on the lives of all those who were privileged to know him. The Dwaine C. Bell Memorial Scholarship was created in his memory and is awarded to one boy and one girl from both Lawrence Central and Lawrence North High Schools.
The Foundation established this $500 scholarship award for students who have:
- A positive mental attitude
- Athletic achievements
- Overcome a hardship
- Academic achievements and activities both in and outside of school
This Lawrence Township School Foundation Scholarship does NOT require an application. The recipients are determined by each school’s Athletic Director.

Peggy Bender Legacy Scholarship
Peggy was a lifelong educator for 30+ years. She taught most of those years in Lawrence Township and was the department leader for Exceptional Learners at McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology for 17 years. In honor of Peggy’s dedication to education, the National Technical Honor Society created this scholarship in her memory.
The recipient of this $1,000 scholarship must:
- Have attended MCIT at some time
- Exhibit the seven-character attributes of the National Technical Honor Society (responsibility, scholarship, skill, honesty, citizenship, leadership, and service)
- Demonstrate kindness to others, be helpful, generous, and have a positive attitude
- Preference given to a student who has overcome obstacles and/or is a member of the National Technical Honor Society
- Requires one reference

Bridge Fund AVID Scholarship
The Bridge Fund’s mission is to connect deserving Lawrence Township high school students with opportunities that they may have missed out on due to financial or social restrictions. A $1,000 scholarship and a laptop is awarded to one senior at both Lawrence Central and Lawrence North High Schools.
The recipient must meet the following requirements:
- A senior at Lawrence Central or Lawrence North
- Is actively involved in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Program
- Demonstrates financial need
- Requires one reference

Cohron’s Manufactured Homes Scholarship
This $750 or higher scholarship was established in 2016 by Cohron's Manufactured Homes, who wanted to support Lawrence Township students residing in their communities.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- Attending Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, or McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology
- Residing in a Cohron's Manufactured Homes Community
- Pursuing a post-secondary education
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Requires 1 reference

Richard H. Crosser Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Richard H. Crosser Memorial Scholarship Fund (formerly the Crossmann Communities Scholarship) was established by Crossmann Communities in 2000 to help support Lawrence Township seniors who wish to pursue a degree in a field related to building trades.
The recipient must be:
- A senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Ranked in the top third of his/her class
- Planning to pursue a two or four year degree in a field related to building trades at an Indiana college or university
- Requires one reference

FitzGibbon Scholarship
This scholarship honors longtime supporters of Lawrence Township Schools, Dan & Joan FitzGibbon.
Scholarships ranging from $1,000 - $2,000 are available to students who meet the following requirements:
- A senior at either Lawrence Central or Lawrence North High School
- Will receive a Honors Diploma or an International Baccalaureate Diploma
- Is attending an out-of-state college or university
- Has a 3.5 GPA or better
- Requires one reference

Linda Greenlee Legacy Scholarship
A $2,000 scholarship awarded to a Lawrence Central or Lawrence North senior who is:
- Planning to study education and become a teacher
- Attending an Indiana college or university
- In good academic standing
- Requires one reference

Marilyn Hammer-Niehaus & Carol Hammer-Furry Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Marilyn Hammer-Niehaus and in memory of Carol Hammer-Furry and their wonderful years at Lawrence Central High School.
The scholarship provides funding of $2,500 per year for a maximum of 2 years of in-state study in which a semester GPA of 3.0 is maintained.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must:
- Attend Lawrence Central High School
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Be in the top 25% of their graduating class
- Demonstrate some degree of financial need
- Be accepted to an academic program of study in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, education, metallurgical engineering, mining engineering, and geological sciences.

Lauren Hanawalt Scholarship
Lauren Hanawalt was unique in her compassion for others and the love for life that she held in her heart. She had a bright light that shined through for so many people and was an inspiration to her family and friends. Lauren's scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Lawrence North student who demonstrates these attributes and will be a bright light for others in their future endeavors.
$3,000 scholarship awarded to a senior at Lawrence North High School who:
- Plans to attend a college or trade school
- Demonstrates compassion for others and a love of life
- Requires one reference

Ronald Klene Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship honoring the late and beloved Lawrence North teacher, Ron Klene, is for a Lawrence North student who:
- Is enrolled (or has had) Advance Placement Government & Law class
- Requires one reference

Lawrence Advance Academy Scholarship
The recipient of this $500 scholarship must:
- Be a Lawrence Township senior who attended the Lawrence Advance Academy
- Have a GPA of 2.25 or higher
- Have at least a 90% attendance rate while at LAA
- Requires 1 reference

Lawrence Township Basketball League Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes the Lawrence Township Basketball League, a volunteer organization that provides basketball programs to more than 700 children annually in grades 3-11.
The initial scholarship was named in honor of Tom Ford, Founding Board member of the Lawrence Township Basketball League, and it awards $1,000 annually to a senior at Lawrence Central and Lawrence North. In 2010, the LTBBL added a second scholarship in the amount of $500.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- A senior at Lawrence Central or Lawrence North High School
- A current or past participant in the Lawrence Township Basketball League
- Have a 2.5 GPA
- Planning to attend a four-year college or university
- Have made a contribution back to youth sports in some capacity.

Ed Martin Legacy Fund Scholarship
In response to the passing of successful automobile dealer, Ed Martin, Sr., in 2005, his family established the Ed Martin Legacy Fund through the Foundation in his memory.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must be:
- Accepted to an Automotive Technology Institute
- A senior at Lawrence Central, Lawrence North or McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology
- In good academic standing
- Requires one reference
The selected applicant will receive a $1,500 award and will also be offered an internship at an Ed Martin Automotive Dealership.

Michael J. & Alisa A. McGlothlin Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Lawrence North alumnus Mike McGlothlin. The scholarship is for one year of tuition and books* to a student who:
- Is a senior at Lawrence North High School
- Served as a varsity team manager during their junior and senior years
- Has a GPA of 2.7 or higher
- Requires one reference.
* Exact amount will be based upon the average of in-state public universities and colleges (Indiana, Purdue, Indiana State, Ball State) indexed each year.

Richard Phillipy Scholarship for Study Abroad
In honor of Dick Phillipy, former teacher at Lawrence Central High School, this $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student to study abroad.
The applicant must meet the following requirements:
- A Lawrence Township High School student or alum currently enrolled in high school, college, or a university
- Planning to study abroad by May 2026
- Requires one reference

Debra Porterfield Legacy Scholarship
Debra Porterfield was a culinary arts/food industry teacher at McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology. She was employed for 19 years and worked with students at Bernie’s Place.
This $500 scholarship is available to:
- A senior at Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, or McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology
- A student planning to study Culinary Arts
- Preference will be given to an MCIT student
- Requires one Reference

Powers & Sons Scholarship
A $20,000 scholarship awarded to a MSDLT high school senior. This scholarship may be renewable for an additional three years.
To qualify for the scholarship, the student must:
- Be African American
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Attend a four-year college or university
- Demonstrate some degree of financial need
- Requires two references
This scholarship is currently not available until the current recipient completes his four year degree program.

The Edger C. Seitz, Jr. & Scott A. Seitz Endowed Scholarship Fund
The Seitz-Owings created this scholarship in memory of Edger C. Seitz, Jr. and his grandson, Scott A. Seitz. The intent of this endowed fund is to provide scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to concentrate their studies in a healthcare field (RN, MD, physical therapist, etc.).
The recipient must:
- Be a senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Plan to pursue a degree in a healthcare-related field
- Rank in top one-third of class
- Have participated in school, community, or service activities
- Display some degree of financial need
- Requires one reference
This scholarship can be renewed one time (if students maintains a GPA of at least 3.5 during their first semester). Recipients must submit a new application.

Spanish Immersion Scholarship Fund
In honor of the first graduating class of Spanish Immersion students in Lawrence Township, a scholarship was established in the amount of $500 to be awarded each year to a deserving student in the program.
The scholarship student must:
- Be a senior at Lawrence North in the Spanish Immersion Program
- Be eligible to receive an Immersion Diploma
- Take the National Spanish Exam in their junior year
- Be in the top 1/3 of their class
- Be an active participant in school, community and/or service activities
- Plan to use the Spanish language after graduation
- Requires one reference

John H. Stewart III Foundation Scholarship
John Stewart was a basketball player at Lawrence North who was taken far too early in his life.
This $1,000 is for a student who:
- Is a senior at Lawrence North High School
- Has achieved academic excellence
- Demonstrates concern for others, especially disadvantaged children
- Requires one reference

DJ Tamer Memorial Scholarship
The DJ Tamer Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of its namesake, DJ Tamer, who was the valedictorian of the class of 2000 at Lawrence North High School and a multiple letter winner in track and cross country. DJ’s attitude allowed him to live each day to its fullest and he treated every person with respect and compassion. DJ’s spirit and motto to “Get Busy Living” is passed on through this award.
The $2,000 scholarship awards a Lawrence North High School senior who encompasses the traits that made DJ Tamer so unique.
The recipient must:
- Be a senior at Lawrence North
- Be academically high achieving
- Have lettered in a least one varsity sport
- Requires two references.
- An interview may be required for the top finalists.

Deb Williams Scholarship
Lawrence Central High School teachers established a memorial scholarship for their colleague, Deb Williams, who died unexpectedly in May 2006. Having taught English in Lawrence Township for 24 years, Deb was an advocate for all youth and instilled high standards for achievement in her students. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a Lawrence Central senior who aspires to follow Williams’ vocation as a teacher.
The recipient must:
- Be a senior at Lawrence Central High School
- Plan to pursue a degree in education at a four-year college or university
- Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Requires one reference

Kristan Leah Wilson Scholarship Fund
Kristan Wilson was a 2002 Lawrence Central graduate who distinguished herself as a Top 30 student, an exceptional soccer player (4-year letterman), and an incredibly vivacious individual. To honor Kristan’s memory, her family created a scholarship fund in her name.
The recipient must be:
- A female senior at Lawrence North or Lawrence Central High School
- Planning to pursue a degree in a healthcare or social services related field
- In the top 25% of your class
- An athlete who has lettered in a varsity sport
- Demonstrating leadership and involvement in extracurricular activities
- Requires two references
